bridget+ryan :: maternity :: high point lifestyle photographer

Last week, I went over to our friends Bridget and Ryan's house (who you may remember from a recent post on B's baby shower) to snap a few photos before baby E arrives. There's just something special about taking photos at a family's own home - it's relaxed, it's personal, and in my opinion, it really is the best place to capture a moment in that family's life.

It's strange photographing your best friends - the people you see on a weekly basis - I'm not quite sure why, but I always feel a bit awkward "working" in front of those I know. Thankfully, Bridget and Ryan were their sweet, sarcastic, adorable selves, and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to document this part of their lives before their family of two becomes three.

(Note: I may have gotten a bit too emotional/sentimental while editing and shed a tear of two. Sorry not sorry.)

I just love E's sweet little nursery, and I can't wait for there to be a baby in it!

There's just something so simple and mysterious about a silhouetted figure, which is probably why the images above are a couple of my favorites from the day.

We had to get one last photo of the family with just their furry baby boy. Poor Russ doesn't have any idea that his life is about to be turned upside down.

Isn't B just the prettiest lil mama? I know she's probably rolling her eyes at me right now, but it's the truth!

Bridget+Ryan :: Thanks again for letting me share in the happiness and excitement and anticipation for the arrival of baby E! I've said it before but I'll say it again... y'all are going to be the most ridiculously cool/fun/awesome parents out there. He's going to be one spoiled baby boy if his auntie and uncle Glessner have anything to do with it :)

the return of the friday five :: greensboro wedding photographer

It's been a long, long time since I've written a Friday Five, and this week's is dedicated to things I'm grateful for this week. Despite the craziness of this past several days, it's definitely had it's high points, and here are just a few:

1. Going see the band FUN. in concert with my hubby last Thursday at Disco Rodeo. If you haven't heard this band, you must be living under a rock and you should watch the video below. Their music is the kind that just makes you want to roll the windows down and sing along at the top of your lungs. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into their music and their shows, and I just love that quality in people. This song is one of my favorites:

2. Lunch with great friends. I am so blessed to be surrounded by a whole bunch of pretty awesome people and made a point this past week to have lunch with a few of them. I caught up with my friend Marissa, a fellow photographer who I've had the opportunity to work with and get to know a little better over the past few months, and while I'm sad that she's moving to DC, I'm excited to see what great things happen for her! Today, I had the chance to have an weekday lunch with my dear friend Bridget, who's always a breath of fresh air. Our conversations tend to be a little A.D.D, but I like to think that it's a gift to be able to cover so many topics in such a short amount of time :)

3. Bubble baths. One of my favorite features of our new home is the jacuzzi tub, and there isn't much better than relaxing in that thing with a glass of wine, a good book, and my favorite sugar cookie scented Yankee Candle. Funny story actually... I never knew exactly why you weren't supposed to use bubble bath in the jacuzzi until last night when I turned on the tub and bubbles began to overtake my bathroom...

4. Client love. I've been delivering some albums this week and love hearing from our super amazing 2012 clients how thankful they are to have worked with us. There's nothing more satisfying as a photographer and business owner than to hear from a bride that you're worth every penny and more, and that their wedding day was actually one of the most stress-free, relaxing days of their life thanks in part to you.

5. Getting Christmas shopping done early (for once). I am happy to report that all of my shopping AND gift wrapping is officially DONE. Like, completely. Now, I can devote the rest of my holiday season to viewing Elf way too many times and enjoying my Starbucks peppermint white mocha while pleasantly watching all of the crazy people at the mall trying to get their last minute shopping done. (Sorry last-minute shoppers for my smug people-watching!)

What are YOU grateful for this week?

a jungle inspired baby shower :: high point event photographer

Let me just start by saying I do not aspire to be an event planner. This weekend, my friend Bridget and I threw a baby shower for our friend Brittany, who's expecting a baby boy in just a couple of months. The shower turned out beautifully, but the amount of effort that went into creating just this small affair made me ever so thankful to be the one photographing all of the beautiful details that go into a wedding instead of creating them.

This jungle-inspired shower was held at the beautiful Loft at Union Square in High Point, and I am forever grateful to Monica for all of her help. Since I was a guest and co-hostess, I didn't get the chance to take a ton of photos, but here are just a few that I was able to catch during some down time...

We made these simple centerpieces using pastel-colored flower pots from Hobby Lobby, plants from Home Depot, chalkboard contact paper as a table runner with each guests name written at their place at the table, and a few candles thrown in.

Bridget whipped up an AMAZING coffee cake recipe and these adorable (and tasty) mini quiches. Check out her food blog here.

DIY Tissue Paper Poms courtesy of Martha Stewart... pretty easy to construct... not so simple to pull apart without tearing.

I'm pretty sure they're laughing at me trying to sprint into the photo before the self-timer goes off... I obviously didn't make it that time.
